John Cratchley For those of you able to reach Leeds,England,Christian is bringing this work to the beautiful performing space of the Howard Assembly Rooms early next year.It is a highly evocative piece of shattered romanticism that rebuilds shards of Mahler's unfinished tenth symphony into new structures of space and refracted light;highly original and fused with rich intensity.

A live remix of Mahler would be a preposterous idea if it was executed by anyone other than Fennesz. He gets inside the music and it's reborn in the image of one of the great geniuses of 21st century music. Favorite track: Mahler Remixed 2.

about

‘Mahler Remixed’ was recorded live at Radiokulturhaus, Vienna by Christoph Amann, in May 2011. This recording is mostly based on samples taken from Gustav Mahler’s symphonies. The performance also includes an early version of ‘liminality’ from the ‘bécs’ album, released in 2014 on Editions Mego. ‘Mahler Remixed’ was a commissioned work performed together with the visual artist Lillevan. The piece was only performed live three times, at Vienna Radiokulturhaus, Carnegie Hall, New York City and at The Istanbul Borusan Art Centre.

about

fennesz Vienna, Austria

His lush and luminant compositions are anything but sterile computer experiments. They resemble sensitive, telescopic recordings of rainforest insect life or natural atmospheric occurrences, an inherent naturalism permeating each piece.
